Improving Inspection Performance in Laminated Product Applications

A recent implementation of Papertech’s WebInspector® WIS in the U.S. has demonstrated improved inspection performance and process visibility in laminated product applications. Designed for extrusion coating and laminating processes, WebInspector® WIS enables reliable detection of critical defects such as wrinkles, insects, and contamination, supporting consistent product quality.

Powered by WebInspector® WIS using CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks), and supported by high-resolution matrix cameras (GigE Vision) with WebSTRIP low-angle reflection lighting, the system delivers precise detection performance down to 0.28 mm, along with improved reliability and enhanced defect identification.

As part of the project, existing WIS beams were upgraded with the latest technology, eliminating the need for a full system replacement. This approach provided a practical path to enhance inspection performance while leveraging the existing installation. Optimized for low-angle reflection, the solution is well suited for detecting fine surface defects in applications where compact, efficient, and cost-effective inspection systems are required.

This implementation highlights the effectiveness of advanced machine vision in demanding production environments, with Papertech’s WebInspector® WIS delivering a practical and high-performance solution that supports consistent quality and reliable operation.
